Will Wormell

A little bit of background information

After finishing my BSc I was employed as a civil servant in London and Brussels for eight years, working on a variety of policy areas for central government. One aspect I focussed on was data protection and I helped to negotiate what eventually became known as GDPR. I also worked on civil and criminal law policy, prisons policy and EU strategy. This interest in policy and data led me to come down to Devon to do my master’s degree at University of Exeter, where I studied data science in the context of public policy.

I turned my career towards working with data after graduating. I was employed as a data analyst for a major utilities firm, before joining Air Marketing.

A little bit about your current role

At Air Marketing, I handle all things data! I’ve built a data warehouse for the business, updated live, so that we have a single repository for all of our records. This lets us provide data analysis and insight for team leaders, visualise performance for clients and help everyone in the business understand our figures. I am also managing AI and machine learning elements within the company, to help uncover deeper analyses and trends from our big datasets.

I strongly believe that firms should be brave and rely on data for decision-making and planning. I love the fact that Air shares this ideal and is keen to innovate in this exciting field.

A little bit of background info:

My career originally started as an Inbound Call Handler at a contact centre. I was quickly promoted to the Contact Centre Trainer where my passion for helping and developing others grew. Wanting to pursue my love of working with people, I moved into a HR & Facilities role for just shy of 5 years at a business on the outskirts of Exeter. I studied my CIPD level 5 Diploma in Human Resource Management which allowed me to start looking for my next step up – Air!

A little bit about your current role:

I now head up HR at Air Marketing, with my responsibility focused on our people strategy. Our employees are the most important and valuable part of our company and I have been given the opportunity to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships with them. Sometimes it can be hard juggling the many different things this role has to offer but that challenge, alongside the results it brings is immensely rewarding.

A little background info:

My career in HR started over 15 years ago when I worked for a local council within the recruitment services team – this is where my love for the industry began.

Before joining Air in September 2021, I had the pleasure of being a stay-at-home mum until my daughter started primary school, I also studied my Level 5 CIPD in HR Management and worked in various roles at a local school.

I was originally born in Somerset where I was brought up on the Quantock Hills. I moved to Devon in 2011 with my partner, and since being in the county have discovered a love for water sports (even though I am a wimp with the cold and seaweed!), the South West Coast Path and Dartmoor!

A little bit about your current role:

Every day is different in the world of HR, but my main responsibility is to provide support and guidance to all employees. At times, HR can be a very challenging role, but it also brings so much delight!

A little bit of background information:

Starting my Financial career back in 2006 as an Accounts Clerk, I’ve had a varied career in a diverse mix of industries. It’s one of the reasons that I love my career in finance; having the opportunity to add value to different companies. Until 2005, I lived in Cornwall but felt that moving to Devon would provide me with the challenging career I sought and still fulfil my passion for the outdoors. In my spare time, I try to make the most of both the countryside and coast in the South West by enjoying the coastal paths, hiking on Dartmoor or enjoying an often-refreshing dip in the sea.

A little bit about your current role:

Overseeing the whole accounting function at Air, I am responsible for day-to-day activities as well as providing financial analysis and accurate reporting to help the Senior Leadership Team and Board make informed decisions on the strategic drive of the company. The custodian of Air’s financial health is an important and daunting role, however the strong team culture amongst Air colleagues provides a supportive environment to implement & strengthen financial management processes. I’m excited to be part of the team and look forward to supporting the future growth and success of Air.
